A powerful weather system threatens millions with catastrophic winds, destructive hail, and life-threatening flooding
Abbott Sounds the Alarm
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott put the state on high alert Sunday, directing the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate its full suite of emergency response resources as a sprawling and dangerous storm system barrels toward much of the Lone Star State. With hurricane-force wind gusts, oversized hail, and the specter of tornadoes looming over a region that stretches from the Panhandle to the Gulf, the threat is anything but ordinary.
The system, forecasters warn, could produce wind gusts surpassing 75 miles per hour and hail exceeding two inches in diameter — large enough to shatter car windshields, strip siding off homes, and pummel crops across rural communities. The storm’s reach is staggering, cutting across West, North, East, Central, and South-Central Texas, with the worst conditions expected to persist through Monday morning.
